Palm Oil

The production of palm oil is linked to major issues such as deforestation, habitat loss, climate change, animal cruelty, and indigenous rights abuses in the countries it is produced. To farm palm oil, growers destroy millions of acres of rainforest each year through incineration displacing over 30,000 species of animals and releasing 6,000 tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. The US consumes 1.2 metric tons of palm oil each year providing a large consumer market for this destructive product.
